What do you guys think, is the added hassle of the 240 Weatherby worth it over the 243 Winchester?

I have a 7mm Weatherby magnum and buying ammo is insanely expensive. I'm too lazy to google it, but I would assume 240 Weatherby is also insanely expensive. 243 is common (you can buy it at Canadian Tire) and, to me, is reasonably priced.

As others said, if you reload then you may not need to worry - except I bet 240 brass is also insanely expensive.

I'd go 6mm-06 before I went to the trouble of getting a .240 Weatherby, all of the performance with more brass options. Between those choices though I'd have to know about the game to be hunted and let projectile choice decide. If I was going to sling conventional cup and cores and Partitions for the most part I'd choose the .243, possibly twisted fast enough for the heavy long range bullets. If I wanted to shoot monometals and other tough bullets and/or push the envelope for the 6mm's to elk or moose I'd think hard about the Weatherby or 06 and probably come to my senses and choose a 6.5 or .270.

The vanguard s11 has sparked new life into the 240 and 257. Ammo is more available than it used to be. The 240 gets the velocity where you can expect to bang flop deer with less muzzle blast and recoil than the 257. Have 243’s here too but my boys grab the 240. It’s a deer killer but I don’t think I’d use it on anything that I wouldn’t shoot with a 243.
Reloading proposition for sure.

If by hassle you are referring to the difficulty of finding ammo and/or brass for the 240 WBy, then yes it can be a hassle, if you aren't into searching and paying extra dollars to shoot your rifle. If you handload, and do not mind the added expense for the additional velocity, and panache of having something less ordinary and cool to shoot and hunt with, then there is no hassle at all.
Depends on your priorities.
If you want a 240Wby, get one and have fun!
I've always thought it was a cool cartridge and have wanted to get one just to play with, as I have not had the opportunity to shoot one. It also fits on a regular long action, so would be a simple rebarrel job on a left handed donor rifle to have one I want. As good as a 270 Win is, it just doesn't have the cool factor that the 240 has for deer and antelope!

Spank em both with the 6mm Creedmoor

Nothing hits your wallet harder or burns your barrel out faster than a Weatherby.

But, they shoot flatter and hit harder than Savage Axis....
As for the burning of the barrel, well anyone can do that ...even to the queen the Ruger 375 .
All one has to do is keep wasting ammo chasing the 10 ring.
Shoot it if you got it and stop worrying about the couple of fps it may or may not gain over its relative.

243 is pretty much the best balance between velocity and barrel life.
I would never own a 240 due to the propriety case.
