243 Deer Bullet

Recent article about a 14 year old girl on her first deer hunt with her dad in Missouri and she knocked down a bull elk. With a 243.

Should ask her what bullet she used ;-)

I know we're talking .243 here but JFTR the Accu-Bonds will do 40" of moose and retain 60-70% of their weight in 160gr/7 mag...........They haven't decided if they are charging the Missouri girl as she thought she was shooting a deer and the elk were protected. Unless this is another story.Harold

The common statement is that 243 win is underpowered for deer, bear or any medium sized game, when compared to other calibers. I disagree completely. It is all riding on the guy behind the gun and the bullet selection. If you do your part, they never go far. 90 gr nosler ballistic tips and h4350 is devastating.

I'd say 243 win is my favorite cartridge of all time.

Over the summer I bought a 243 for the wife and kid, hand loaded some Hornady 80 gr GMX. I used it to fill my whitetail doe and buck tag, both were pass throughs at 200 and 260 yards and nice quick kills.
