I am gonna be loading some deer rounds for my brothers .243. 95 gr. Hornady SST or Sierra 100 gr. SBT. Does anyone have any experience with these bullets. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I have only used Sierra 180 gr. Pro hunter out of my .30-06. on paper. Shot great but no on game experience.

I have shot a few deer, take it or leave it with the Pro-Hunter bullets, one with a 270 and the other with a 338 wm, go figure the 338 passed through no expansion, and the 270 baisicly took the front shoulder off a deer changed directions and came out its neck a fist sized hole but it did exit, and broke the front shoulder.
I would not use a game king even though I have and it worked but it came apart, but the pro hunters worked ok for the intended purpose.
I currently have a really accurate hunting load reved up with my 243 with 100 g pro hunters I am going to use this year in the tree stand to see. I am sure it will work but it will be intresting to see what happens to the bullet?

I've taken maybe a half dozen deer and one bear I can remember with 100 gr Sierras in a 243. One deer was a loooong shot thru the heart and he never took a step, dropped in his tracks. Biggest moose I ever shot was with the same combination. Lung shot and he went about 40 yards. I have always been a fan of the Sierra Game Kings. The 95gr Nosler/Winchester combination shoot very well in my 6/284 but I have never shot anything with them.

used the 95 sst's for the first time last year. the old lady shot her deer @ 240 through the heart. it was a pass through shot. deer walked 20 yards and layed down.

100 sierra flat bases work good too.

the sst's shoot around an inch out of her Browning BLR. i'll keep loading them for her.

Sierra .243 100 SBT:
40gr Rl-19
COL 2.65

work great.

I've also worked up a load with 85gr BTHP ( gamekings) for this year. I justed missed an opportunity at a deer last week... hopefully I'll have a performance report soon.

My stevens loves this load and will shoot 3 shot groups under a dime :
95 Grain Nosler Balistic tip (hunting)
40 Grains IMR 4831
Win LR primer ,COL 2.710

Only shot paper so far , but will be my deer load for that gun ;)

Thanks for all the info. Just waiting for Canpar to deliver my bullets. I was hoping to use IMR 4064 or IMR 4350 as I have some of each. Oh yah, my brothers gun is a rem 7600. Any suggestions for a decent scope. I was thinking a bushnell 3200 3-9x40 or the same in a VXI or VXII. A good deal on a used scope would be ideal.

go VXII of the ones mentioned, if the budget says so

if I had to use my 243 on deer, I'd load either the 85 grain Barnes TSX or the 100 grain Nosler Partition, loaded over H4350 or similar.

i have loads for 95 sst's with both IMR 4064 and 4350. both shoot identical, velocity difference is insignificant, 4350 recoils harder with more muzzle blast.
