So my stockpile of IMR4350 is shrinking, and as it remains difficult to find, I'm looking for an alternate load for my .243 Win so as to preserve it for other calibers. I do typically have a lot of IMR7828 on hand, and it remains easy to find, so I thought I'd give it a try with the .243. There is a decent amount of load data for this combo, but I'm wondering if anyone here has tried it? I have typically used the 7828 for my Wby magnums, not in the smaller cases and shorter barrels. Any feedback?

I load hunting-type loads, usually 95gr Nosler partitions or SST's.

Cheers!

I played with 7828 in the .243 and 95gr pills & higher. Found it to be a very decent powder for the heavier pill's. If it's what you have then by all means , work up a load & shoot.
Your barrel will tell you if it like's the slower burn rate or not. But I wouldn't be surprised if you found what your looking for. Note that my savage really liked the 95gr ballistic tips & a max load of 7828. But I only had 1 box of them, & after that went back to the 105gr Bergers & IMR 4451 powder. Let us know how it work's out ......

Cheer's & play safe

Oh & if you need some Nosler or Hornady load data let me know.

i use a 100 grain bullet in my 243 .loaded up with imr 7828 .has the accuracy and speed i want .

Thanks guys. I'll see what the combo can do for me. I don't get a lot of time for hobbies, so I didn't want to waste any working up a load that others could warn me off of.

It really is amazing how the component shortages over the last few years have completely altered my approach to reloading. It sure will be nice when (if?) I don't have to worry about trying new loads because I don't want to run out of a projectile or powder!

The slow-poke powders in the .243 works very well, but in order to get the results you want, you pretty much have to start with the 100 grain bullet; the 105 grainers being potentially better. I have used H1000 in .243 and it does really well using a 100 grain Hornady BTSP. I have also wanted to try IMR7828ssc.

H1000 & IMR 7828 work well with the heavy bullets.

I have 3 - 6mm Remingtons, and both those powders are full cases for best performance.

Regards, Dave

Thanks for the input guys. I've got more than enough choices of 95's and 100's in my inventory, so I've got some tinkering to do it seems. This might be a winter project with spring tests, but if I can get the new loads to the range this fall, I'll post some results.

Many thanks again!

Cheers,

Andrew
