I have a Winchester Featherlight in .243wssm. It shoots very well for a factory gun. I have shot 5inch groups at 500m. That being said, the target rifle community really has not accepted this caliber. Brass quality being the number one problem. The case necks are very thick and not very consistent, and there is no Lapua or Norma match brass available. Another problem that I have had is stabilizing any bullets over 85g in the 1/10 factory barrel. I have considered a Gaillard barrel (1/8 or 1/7.5) for a target gun, but 6BR/ PPC or .243 Win /AI seem to be a better option. The "tried and true" .243 Win only sacrifices a few hundred f.p.s. to the WSSM.
However I still do not intend to get rid of the WSSM, it is an awesome threat to the yote population, and took my second white tail with it this year.
