243 wssm

I wouldn't ming trying out the .25 WSSM, but I've been told by many people that the WSSM series has been plagued with feeding problems, so I don't know what to think. I figured that they would make for a nice, short, handy rifle with plenty of punch for most small to medium game.

I would say if your a reloader and can stock up on components this might be an interesting cartridge. It's pretty fast but I think a .240 Weatherby might be just as good, if your in the market for a 6mm why not the tried and true .243?

The WSSM's are struggling to survive in many areas. The 243 WSSM is a short version of 6mm Remington performance. Feeding issues vary, but have not been a really serious concern. I am not about to jump on the bandwagon, since the brass would be tough to find should the chambering be discontinued. I do own a 300 WSM though. Eagleye.

I have a model 70 featherweight in .243WSSM.
It is light, and a pleasure to carry and shoot.
On the negative side, it is particular about the loads it will shoot well. Accuracy ranges from spectacular (.19-.25 inches) with good loads to about (4.5-6 inches) with bullets it doesn't like. The factory brass is of marginal quality, which makes it unacceptable as a precision cartridge.
That being said I really enjoy mine, and have taken 2 white tails with it.
Is it better than a regular .243? Probably not, but it is different, and a really cool looking little cartridge.

Good cartridge.

I had 2 of them. One in a Model 70 Featherweight and a Browning A-Bolt Hunter. Trying to buy back the Browning.

Never had any feeding problems with either. As the previous poster stated the Model 70 Featherweight is particular what it shoots. The A-Bolt didn't seem to care, just shot everything really well.

Really like the cartridge but I don't think it is going to survive so if you get 1 stock up on components.

problem is, nobody is making rifles chambered in them for the past three years.....their ballistics are fine, and accuracy should be as good as anything. There just isnt anything available now

thanks for the input guys i just bought a browning abolt 243 wssm i love the a bolt and love the 243 (had a ruger m77 but it got stolen) i like to try new things so ill let you all know how it goes. is the factory ammo on its way out? but yeah i will stock up and see if i cant load something great and fill you all in.
thanks again

I have a Win. M70 Coyote in 25 wssm and love the rifle. It is picky on the loads it likes but once you work up a good load it shoots great. I have had no feeding issues but would recommend getting some extra brass in case it gets hard to find. I have some cases that have been reloaded 12 times and the brass is still in good shape so for me and this rifle, 2-3 hundred cases will last me a lifetime.
