Ok so i know its mostly a dead caliber, but i want one, and i expect you all to talk me out of it.

Should you all fail at talking me out of it, where the hell can i get something chambered for it :)

The 6mmBR does look very appealing for all the same reasons, does anyone know if you can get that in a remington 700 short action? I'm open to suggestions on what action to base this build on, but I've got a rem 700 and it makes me smile so I'd be tempted to go with that

Maliqua, you're there. A 6BR on a Remington 700 is an awesome combination. Simply give some thought to going with a stock that is better suited to t he type of shooting you will be doing, and that will accomodate a heavier contour in the barrel.

FYI, I have 8 twist 6mm heavy barrels specifically configured for a remington diameter action and for making into 6BR's. I personally use several.

It is simply the most accurate long range 6mm cartridge going and damned easy to make work.

"...I want one..." Excellent reason. Me too. Buy as much brass as you can too. Even if you're not reloading now. If the .243 WSSM gets dropped, you won't be stuck with a rifle you can't get ammo.
Winchester M70 Ultimate Shadow and Browning A-Bolt Hunter supposedly both come in .243 WSSM. Likely have to order one though.

Had one SOLD it.

I had a custom rifle in this caliber 243WSSM and found I had all the velocity I wanted BUT it didn't matter what I did I could not get the accuracy I wanted.
Opinions, I think it's another over bore cartridge with very heavy gauge brass, it would be fine for varmet hunting BUt not target shooting.

Got one. Shoots great! Bolt lift is ugly even with starting loads. Cartridges are way too thick and do not shrink back in size after firing. Thick brass ruined the WSSM's.

I have one, a browning stalker A bolt. I bought it for my kids to shoot deer with, its a nice little rifle. I've never used it myself but I am always impressed with how well that little bullet works for deer. I have been keeping all the brass, expecting to have to start reloading in the future.

I agree the 6br is a great way to go. Easy to tune. Light recoil. Accurate as you could reasonably expect. Cheap to load. Great performance at 300 yards, good at 600 and they know you are there at 1000.

regarding the 243 WSSM. Most people would rather gear themselves up for something leaning towards a 300 RemUM or something of that persuasion...lol I have a 243WSSM and it was Browning's and Winchester's best kept secret. Mind you mine is a Medalion and not a varmit, or target rifle, and shoots very, very well.

While they are not in production at the moment, you might be able to persuade (beg) Browning to produce one (last one) for you in the A-bolt. If they do it for you, you'll be good to go. If not, you could try and get the 25 WSSM it would be a good choice too.
