im starting to reload my 243 brno as i have a lot of imr 4198 powder can any one recomend how many grains to use to push a 80 gram bullet
thanks

IMR4198 isn't a .243 powder. It's for .22 centre fires and .45 calibre rifles.
IMR3031, 4064, 4320, 4895 and 4350 are in the IMR line.
Hodgdon's site has 11 loads for 80 grain bullets. So should your manual.

The Hodgdon / IMR site (and manual) DO NOT list IMR-4198 as a powder for the 243 Winchester cartridge (with any bullet weight).

There are LOTS of other powders that work great in a 243 with 80gr bullets.

To name a few: H414, Varget, H380, IMR 4350

Take a look at a reloading manual for safe powder weight ranges and reloading procedures.

Good Luck! SD

as mentioned, 4198 is better suited to 222s & 45/70s

243 works better with medium burn powders like 4064, 4350, varget, rl15, 4895

IMR 4198 in .243

From the IMR/ Dupont powder booklet:

Rem case..Rem. 80 grain Ptd. soft pt. 22 inch brl.

No start load... just max load.
IMR4198....32.0 grains...3035 fps...51,300 CUP

Rem case. Rem. 100 grain Ptd. SPCL
IMR4198...31.0 grains....2750 fps....52,000 CUP

....not the most efficient powder for high velocities in the .243 but if thats' what you have on hand ...go for it as you will probably find some good accuracy at these reduced velocities too!
