24ga reamer

Here are some dimensions. Cheapo, followed by Mitu. Cheapo goes to 3 numerals, Mitu to 4. I didn't bother to check either against my gauge blocks, because for the purpose, it doesn't matter.

Rim diameter: .724; .723.
Base diameter: .656; .655.
Diameter @ 2": .645; .643.

For reamer: .727, .659, .647.

Base to mouth, .006 tpi.

From mouth to pilot, 10 - 20 degree taper for forcing cone.

Pilot: bore diameter, less .001.

That would make a working reamer.

Barrel purchase, plus reamer, plus threading, chambering and fitting, $600?
Can't see that making any sense.
Scrapper Snider barrel, reamed smooth, chamber left as is, $50 for the reamer. That is practical.
I've never reamed a Snider barrel smooth, but I have reamed ml shotgun barrels for sleeving. No big deal. Have a couple of horribles on hand, should give it a try.

id pay $600 to get it done right I don't have a snider barrel even if I did boring it smooth it would have to be around .600"-.610" or so making it over bore when a .580-.585 bore is ideal sending it to epps mite be the best bet

id pay $600 to get it done right I don't have a snider barrel

If you are ready to pay $600 for the work you are between 1/2 and 1/3 of the way to buying a second hand lathe. With all of the abilities you have described in earlier posts, you could then make your own tooling and do all manner of gun repairs and modificaitons as well ask make your own custom loading and forming dies

cheers mooncoon

yes a lathe is in the near future for me soon as I get the ball rolling and get some money looking at old atlas and south bend lathes on kijiji much rather have something old then something new just like my old power hacksaw

you will get the money a good sight sooner if you do not fritter it away on projects like a 24 guage snyder with the machine work done by a machine shop. I have done a few rebuilding projects over the years and I could never begin to afford or to justify them if I had to farm out the machine work

eh money is money it comes and go's to me its worthless paper and plastic because it really is only worth what the government tells you its worth. anyway I don't have anywhere for a lathe right now as soon as I get shop and get some money coming in things will come to me

You are going to have to make up your mind at some point whether the stuff is worthwhile or worthless to you because you are giving some pretty conflicting messages kid.

Everything that seems to be holding you back is about the money, and all your plans are about the money you think you are going to make, but if you tell anyone that you build a bike for (if it ever happens) that you think money is valueless, you better be ready to be paid in shiny cool looking pebbles from the roadside!

Like it or don't, you either gotta keep an eye on the bottom line, or you gotta get used to the taste of fail.

Cheers
