25/06, and moose

Both of my sons have shot their first moose. With a 25/06 using the 120 partition. One shot and they went down at 50 yards.

Moose aren't cape buffalo as some people think that never hunted them.Just use a well constructed bullet for penetration and expansion.I like a 6.5x55 with 160gr SP drill....my son killed a 3pt Bull elk at over 400 yards with a 120gr Hornady HP and the bullet broke a rib entering and another exiting...Harold

Altho not my first choice for moose but if I were presented a broadside shot a 2506 with a 120gr partition I'd take it. If in an area where recovery of the animal was easy I'd push the distance to 300 yards. If in thicker cover I'd go 200 or less. If I go for moose in ontario my 2506 will be 1 of 3 guns I bring

I use 5 pin bowling balls out of 6 feet of Schedule 80 pipe with two cans of ether and some oxygen for good measure. Anything less just wont kill them as dead. I swear. Deader than dead. Makes sure they are VLD bowling balls though. For the long range killing sophistication.

I've heard that wit a 30-06, it's best to go with at least 180gr bullet. Any thoughts anyone.

I would expect either 150 or 180 (or other weight) to go right through a moose on a broadside shot through the ribs. I think the rule of thumb for 180s is extra insurance, particularly with traditional cup and core (i.e., non-premium) bullets, that the bullet will hold together if you hit heavy bone.

Oops my bad. I wasn't wearing my glasses when I typed that. It should have read 150 gr. The 8 is above the 5 on the numerical keypad. Although in B.C. It's a min. of 175 gr but that's for BISON.....lol

I hate wearing my glasses when I don't have too.
