So I'm getting set up to reload again and the starting point is my 25-06.
Years ago I was able to get 0.25"-0.5" groups easily with 87gr. bullets. Simply start at or near the bottom of recommended loads and move up until they start to spread out. Worked well, but I'm not a max. velocity junkie.
The wheels fell off when I started using heavier bullets, 100gr. was 1"-1.5" and 117/120gr. went out to 2"-3".
Like I said it's a Browning BBR and I always figured it was the rate of twist factor but I don't seem to be able to confirm the rate anywhere.
I weighed every charge, but not the cases or bullets. I form fired and neck sized, trimmed length and only used once fired as a starting point. After firing in my gun I would use them about 5 times.
As I recall IMR 4320 worked well while IMR4350 didn't. (going by memory here not my notes so don't panic if I'm wrong about those powders)
I can't remember all the articles I've read about reloading and "reloading for accuracy", but the sources I remember were
Various reloading manuals from the 80s or 90s - gone water damage
Jim Carmichael - long gone
Pennsylvania game news (I really liked getting the from friends down there) don't have time to go through them all if I still have them
So what I'm looking for:
Rate of twist in the Browning BBR 25-06
powder recommendations for 117/120gr. bullets
two or three definitive sources for reloading generally and for accuarcy
what is expected case life for 25-06 by manufacturer
Cheers
