.25/06 Remington

I just had the one; a Styr Manlicher Stainless Pro Hunter. It might be the the most accurate sporter weight factory rifle I ever had. All I used in it was 100 grain Sierras and IMR 4350. Got it new; but very cheap; sold it to my son’s buddy when he was starting out. It has boringly killed everythinghe points it at for about 11 years now.
Good as it was, I never found anything it could do that my 257 Weatherbys couldn’t do better at the cost of a bit more powder. Recoil is more or less nothing either way.

As others have said, the 25 cals are severely under rated. I have a 257 wby in the safe and its a laser beam, its also a Laserguard so I dont take it out often. I have been on the hunt for a synthetic stock 257 bee to use, if I scratch it, oh well.
Buddy runs a 25-06 and loves it. The quarter bore bug is very real, get bit and look out....

An 8 twist 257 wby or 25-06 AI would be tough to beat for deer, antelope, moose and elk imo.

Never had a 25-06, but I have a new to me custom 257 Robert’s AI that shoots 115gn partition in an inch and avg velocity of 3050fps! I waiting on some 110 accubond to see if I can shrink the groups, but for up here I don’t want to go lighter than 110gn.
I heard 25-06 is a bit of a barrel burner but I think it is not as bad as 243’s.

Had a 700 in the 70-80s. Had great luck and fast kills. Could be a little hard on meat. 100&120 gr was its bread and butter. The Hornady 117 was a flop, lots of tracking and follow up shots. The lighter hp was used on coyotes but I liked the 100 gr better.

What a great caliber …from coyotes to deer and bear and moose
My dope for my rifle is good to 400 meters …no problems none what so ever taking game
Seriously under rated cartridge

I had a Rem 700 for many years and I shot a couple truck loads of deer with it. 10 mule deer does in two days in a cull zone by Maple Creek, SK. Can't remember ever having to use a second shot. Sold it and went to the 6mm Rem, but I missed the 25-06 so i bought a Cooper in 25-06AI. Have a few different deer stands to choose from but when I head to the pasture where I know shots can be a long ways I take the 25-06AI. Bought my son a LH Tikka T3 in the AI version. He mostly just shoots standard 25-06 loads, which is just fine as it fireforms brass for me that just needs to be neck sized to work in the Cooper.
Tried it on coyotes but when they were worth money it made too big a mess of them. Now that they are not worth a lot I don't care what I shoot them with.
