OK the shell on the right is stamped 25-20 Dominion
The one on the left is headstamped WRA CO 25-20

What gives??

The longer one on the left is the old 25-20 Singleshot that Winchester used in their mod 1885 "low-wall" single shot rifle. When they came out with the 1892 repeater it required a shorter cartridge to cycle in the action so they came up with the "new" stubbier version. I once bought a low-wall thinking I was getting the newer 25-20 cartridge but it was the old long one. I found it very difficult to find ammo for it. Found a few at a gun show but very pricey. (collectible) I hope this helps.

I can't remember what I paid for the handful that I bought - probably 15 years ago. They were original old Win. cartridges - black powder. Collectors buy them when they can. The fatter, new cartridges of course won't chamber in the singleshot rifles. I havn't seen any for years. I think if I still had that rifle I would consider rechambering it to shoot the "new" version. Don.
