I recently bought a .300WM which basically makes my 7mm Rem Mag surplus to my hunting needs. Don't really want to sell it as I won't get much $ for it 'cause it's just a cheap Savage.

Was thinking of re-barreling to a quarter bore wildcat. Just wondering what you all think would need to be done to do so, bbl length etc. I figure it'd be a fairly straight forward conversion but it doesn't seem all that common. Any insight, thoughts, recommendations and ridicule are welcome :D

You'd have a .257 Weatherby....a new Savage 25-06 barrel likely could be rechambered..........Harold

You could do a .25-.300 Win Mag, which gives you quite a bit more go. There was someone on here that did one and it was very impressive. About +200-300 fps better than a .257 Wby with 100gr bullets. I bet you could get over 4000 fps with the new 80gr Barnes TTSX in a 26" barrel. It would be quite nice on deer sized game.

Thanks, I'll see if I can find it.

Probably need to modify the bolt face?

I see that Shilen lists .257Wby barrels for the Savage...problem solved haha

The bolt face is the same for the .257 Wby, 7mm RM and the .300 Win Mag.
