Actually, the firearm in question is historical, my buddy recieved it from his deceased grandfather in Nova Scotia.
This model 99 was given to his grandfather from "Stout" Del Thomas, a guide in the expedition chronicled by Albert Bigelow Paine in the book The Tent Dwellers.
You can see the wear on one side by the saddle scabbard. The crack in the stock has been repaired and a gunsmith has serviced it.
google the book "The Tent Dwellers", I'm sure those from Nova Scotia are familiar with it, and the author is most famous for being the biographer of Mark Twain.
