O.K I know the 250 Savage was originally called the 250-3000, But is the 250-3000 Ackly improved the same cartridge as the savage? I can't seem to find any schematics on the Ackly.

The .250 Ackley Improved (AI) has a 40 degree shoulder, while the parent cartridge is (IIRC) 28 degrees. To form the AI chamber, the 250-3000 chamber is reamed, leaving an almost straight-walled appearance. The AI brass is fire-formed and the resulting cartridge looks very similar to the "short magnum" cartridges in its profile.

The case on the left is a .250 AI, the one on the right is a .22-250, which retains the original .250-3000 profile.

Case capacity is increased by about 15% and you can really get a useful (10%-15%) increase in velocity as a result.
