The 250 Savage is a fine, mild mannered little round.
The early, 1-12" twist 99 Savages will shoot bullets up to 100 grains well.
It is when you try to shoot the 115 and 120 grain pills that the trouble starts.
The original designation of this chambering was 250/3000.
The latter number was the velocity of the 87 grain bullet.
This was the heaviest bullet that could be safely started at 3000 fps.
Later versions of the chambering went to a 1-10" twist.
