So guys title says it, my budget is $2500 with taxes factored into that price.

I've had my eyes set on a NF NXS 8-32 or 12-42, however I know there are other contenders out there.

This will be sitting atop a custom Rem 700 in .300 Win Mag. It's going to a be a dedicated 1000 and 1760 yard gun. Some people have got me worrying that the NXS 12-42 won't cut it past 1500 yards to due to not having enough internal adjustment.

Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

***EDIT***
Very important, forgot to ask... MRAD or MOA?

My personality =
"Hey Mike, how tall is that guy?" Me: "6 feet"

"How long is your barrell?" Me: "30 inches"

I talk, understand and observe in imperial. Should this immediately deter me from going MRAD?

As of today i have to say Sightron is incredible for the price, had my first outing with my Big Sky 36X on top of my TC icon Precision hunter and i put it on par with my 5X25X56 S&B and my 2 Zeiss for clarity and for long rang work the Sightron have the thinest crossair i eved seen... JP.

I wanted to buy one but it is very complicated you have to order form from the custon and get a tax derogation, was easyer to buy a Sightron and actually i find it to be a great scope... JP.

IMHO stick with what you have your eyes set on!! You spot for 4 hours with any other glass and your eyes will tell you in pain/headache. The talk on most shooting lines is MOA.
I have 2 NXS 5.5-22X56 with NP-R1 reticle and when I set up the next gun it will have a NXS 5.5-22X56 on it. Good out to a mile, soon to try for 2000 yards.

I have a NXS 8-32x56 on my 338LM and quite like it. Mine is a mildot with MOA turrets. Good value for money. S&B and Premiere might be better, but I am quite satisfied with what I have. In fact, I have changed most of my scopes to NF.

As for the internal adjustment question, I am guessing one of the real gurus will be along soon. Off the top of my head, the BR has less internal adjustment than the NXS. The NXS 5.5-22 has more internal adjustment than the NXS 8-32.

The 12x42 has a TOTAL of 40 moa elevation, so assuming you stick 1 on a plus 20 MOA rail you will have 40 MOA to work with. So based on average of 2850 FPS with the 190 gr SMK ( I use this as a base line only YMMV) at 1200 yards you have run out of elevation.
The amount of time that 42 power is actually able to be used is low as bigger magnification increases the severity of mirage factor, so most of the time you will be using the scope at about 20 power.
The 8x32 has 65 MOA total elevation so on a plus 20 MOA rail you will have about 52 MOA of elevation to work with which will get you out to about 1450 yards before you max out the elevation.
The 5.5x22 has 100 MOA total so with the plus 20 rail you get 70 MOA to work with which will allow you to get out to the 1600 yard area.

Personally I would never consider a Mil Rad scope, the units of measure are too coarse for fine adjustments.
1/10 Mil equates to .366", where as 1/4 MOA is roughly .250".
I just switched up my 8x32 on my extreme long range rig to the new 8x32 with 1/8th MOA turrets so as to be able to make more precise adjustments.
a 1/4 adjustment at 1000 yards is 2.5 inches which I just do not find small enough.

The Vortex Razor HD I have has 125 MOA of internal adjustment. Very good glass, but for extreme distance target work I don't know if the FFP reticle is the best option. I know legitimate tactical shooters like this style of reticle, but for us "civies" it might leave a little to be desired.

I sold my Razor HD becuase I found at higher magnification the reticle completely cover the target. I am talking a 5" gong at 1000 yards.
My thinking is if I can not see it how can I hit it?
Really nice glass just not so fond of the FFP thing:(

8-32x56 Sightron, 75MOA of adjustment, slap a 40MOA rail on it and have some fun. Don't expect to have a 100y zero :)
or a 8-32x56 NF NXS, my budget doesn't allow for it but yours will. IMO the Sightron has just as high quality glass in it as the NF at a fraction of the cost. I gotta say though, I would LOVE to have an NXS with 1/8MOA clicks and high speed turrets

You have enough in the budget to get it and you want a NXS, I would go for it. X 2 for what ATRS says, even if you learned MRAD and Mil-Dots it is an easy switch to MOA, calculations for range are almost the same. Can work for both Metric and imperial just different mathematics. Nightforce provides a cheat sheet for their measurements with the scope, you can look at it on their website under "library" I believe.

A Nightforce is probably never going to break on you so you can expect to have this optic for the rest of your life; this is how I talk myself into things.

next time i'm at the range i will invite as many individuals as possible to look through both my 8-32 Nf and 8-32 sightron. Stay tuned for the results! to my eyes, the Nf is by far superior and i don't see how others are making statements that they're just as good. I wish there was another option on par with the Nf, for a few bucks cheaper. i was holding out hope for the razor, but the only thing impressive was the box and packaging.

I agree. The Sightron is great glass for the $$ but NF quality they are certainly not. You really DO get what you pay for.

Sightron offers great optics for great value ..... but come on! seriously?
When comparing high quality optics head to head, the differences become a little harder to discern but there are still differences.

Here is a link to a high-end scope review that I found:

If there is differences they are very small enough i can see them in one outing but let us not forget that i paid over 3000.00 for each of my S&B and under 800.00 for my Sightron only for that the Sightron is already a winner... JP.

Well guys I got to look through both, the NF and the Sightron. I've seen so many people now stating that the glass is on par. I have no idea what they are talking about. The image appeared much brighter in the NF. I found it MUCH easier and more forgiving of head position. This had my target aquisition happening much faster. Staring at a subdivision 1500 yards away in the valley made the difference in contrast evident big time.

I'm don't want to sound like I'm bashing Sightron but the glass seemed on Par with my Vortex Viper I just sold. Both of those have great glass but too me I guess the NF is worth the extra dough. I grit my teeth when I read it on here but I'm going to say it. Buy once cry once. I guess.

Lord knows how hard I'd be crying if I bought a Hensoldt or S&B
