If I buy a new 25-06, is there any reason why it can not be reamed out to a 257 STW.

And a question for Gunsmiths on here how hard is this to do with a Tikka vs a Remington.

Easier with a Rem I think. Bolt face will have to be opened up for mag sized cases, and the Rem long action is perfect for this application. Buy some slow powders, you'll need them. Also, a 26" barrel is a better choice for this application, but a 24" will still give you a pretty substantial velocity increase over a 25-06. - dan

Buy something chambered in a belted magnum. The STW is belted, the .25-06 is not. That means the bolt face will need work.
Find a source of brass, etc first too. You'll likely have to pay for the reamer too. They run about $95.99US.

Unless the .257 WBY you wish to ream to 257 STW has at least a 26 inch barrel it would be an absolute waste of money.

The "purpose" of such an overbore case is to get maximum velocity... and you really need a 28 inch or longer barrel for such an overbore case to perform.

Use the .257 WBY reamed out as a fire forming barrel so you will make lots of brass and then install a new 28 inch custom barrel and only use it for hunting and it should last a while.

A "standard" .257 WBY is one of the best overbore 25's going...
