.257 Roberts for Moose.

Like Jack O'Conner's mythical Indian guide was quoted as saying"Any gun good gun if you shoot straight"..........................Harold

257 for moose?

Personally, I like a little more gun, 270 or better, however, I have a buddy that usews his 25-06 for everythiong up to and including moose and blackbear, with good bullets(nosler partition or barnes) and properly placed shots, your 257 will do fine.

I just have to wonder why someone wants to shoot a moose "from almost any angle"?

Unless you're bailing out of a pickup to whang away at a moose stepping off a forest road into the bush, they're typically standing there looking at you. It's just not that hard to pick a spot with good shot placement. After all, why ruin the meat? Moose is good groceries!
While I totally agree with this a case could be made that a Moose quartering towards you would present a tough shot for a small bullet. The front leg bone on a big bull may be too tough to allow penetration into the cest cavity. Personally I like big guns for Moose hunting. Do you need them? No. Are they way more fun? Yup.:)
