.257 Roberts

I am currently loading a 250-3000 Savage which basically uses a 308 case necked down to 257
You will find the 308 case to be larger than the shorter, more tapered 250Savage. Other than the bolt face size, they are two different cases.

There is a wildcat out there based on a 308 necked down call the 25Souper.

Hmm I thought it was closer than that. Actually chambered one in my 308 by mistake and wondered why the bang was so soft. Ooopsie! Should learn to keep rounds that are close to each other separated. I couldnt find a 99 in 257BOb so I got the 250 instead.

I'd also advise you to buy the rifle. Here is my experience.
If you use 100 grain bullets, the .243 and .257 are identical in their effectiveness on game. But I think the .257 with 117-120 grain bullets is significantly better deer/black bear rifle than the .243. It kills medium big game very decisively and seems to be a well balanced round.
After using my push feed Win mod 70 .257 for about 20 years, (and many deer and one bear later) I traded "up" to Sako AV 25-06. I did get a better rifle but a poorer cartridge. More boom, kick and no better killing ability on deer sized game.
I hope you enjoy your new .257!
