I am wondering if anyone has actual experience with the two calibers. I have had two 257 wby's I know what they will do. I am wondering if anyone has had or know first hand what a 257 STW will do? what was the barrel length, and speed they are getting with what grain of bullet? I thank you for any useful knowledge as I am planning on building a new 257 and I am leaning to the 257 STW.

The STW is cooler, just because nobody I know has one.

Although of all factory rounds the 257 roy is without a doubt #1 in the cool factor sweepstakes, except maybe a custom mauser in 375 ouch and ouch.

If you just want something no one else has, take a 7mm Ultra and neck it down to .257. The .257 is one of two Weatherby cartridges that has tempted me over the years, (the other is the .300) but better judgment has always prevailed. I think the .25/06 is a good balance of case capacity for caliber, has a non-belted case, and properly loaded produces some impressive performance.

257

I am going to go with a 27" or 28" barrel. I am building it on a weatherby Mark V uultralight so I can't go with the 257 RUM or That would be sweet. the feed rails on the mag box won't allow a RUM.

a 25-378.interesting .i bet you would get maybe 500 rounds thru it before the barrel is gone .

At 110-120grs of powder, you would probably get 60 rounds to a pound.... You would have to make the barrel out of titanium...
