257 Weatherby options?

I've decided i'm going to buy myself a dedicated deer rifle and i've decided on a 257 Weatherby. I was planning on getting it in a Vanguard but i was wondering what else is out there for rifles in this caliber? Other than Cooper (out of my price range) and Weatherby i can't find anyone else making a gun in this caliber.

Also, any advice on a scope in the $500 or under range to put on the rifle would be great. I was thinking of going with a 4-12 or a 4.5-14 or something in that range.
 
I am not sure if currently but remington has definitely had 700's in 257 bee.

Really though, I would recommend just sticking with a Vanguard. Great guns for the money (and above)
 
I believe that Remington came out with their Model 700 CDL chambered in the 257 Wby. The Vanguards and Remington's are priced the same, however one advantage I see with the Remington is that it has a 26 inch barrel, whereas; the Vanguard only has the 24 incher. Good luck!
 
Williams arms in Port,Perry Ontario has a used weatherby 257 for $500

Google williams arms and then use the phone and order the gun.

No email with them but top drawer excellent service.

He only sells guns in excellent condition.
 
retoxtony, I do not recall exactly what turned me onto the Wby in .257 other than the ballistics chart will show a variety of Wby ammo sighted in for 3 inches @ 100yrds will be zeroed @ 300yrds and of course this is with a 26 inch barrel though.
With a 100grn Barnes TSX at 300yrds will be traveling 2800 fps with 1725 pounds of energy at that 300 yrds as well.

Plus I like to stir the pot on occasion with the marketing hype of the day with this bit of nostalgia/history... Roy Weatherby’s personal favorite. Travels 3,825 fps (87 grain bullet), giving you the flattest trajectory of any .25 caliber rifle in the world. Suitable for long-range varmint shooting but ideal for big game hunting (depending upon bullet weight) and of course when those nostrils flare around the camp fire I toss this in for a closer ;) "nothing shoots flatter, hits harder or is more accurate" than a Weatherby.

As for the one at Williams Arms that appears to be the Series 1 gun without the two stage trigger if that means anything to you.
A New Series will be from $619.00 to $900.00 for the Vanguard models.

I love the smell of the powder, the crack of the recoil and that little hole down range when touching off those $5.00 factory rounds.

Just my thoughts on the .257 Wby Vanguard Series 1 or 2.

I like to shoot up the $2.00 factory rounds; Weatherby factory ammo for less than the Weatherby empty brass.

I actually find the .257 to fly somewhat flatter, flatter than the ballistic charts would indicate. That's mostly with 100 grain Ballistic- Tips handloads.


If you can find a 700 LSS or CDL in .257 I wouldn't turn it down. I had a LSS for awhile before being traded out of it, and it was a shooting machine in a slim great fitting package. I've got .257s in the Mark V and Laserguard too, I don't think theres a wrong way to do it.

I'd go weatherby vanguard deluxe wood if it were my choice. Er Shaw second. Cooper third

I've often thought about moving up to the bee from a 25/06 but haven't yet found the need

Pair of vanguards in 257wby and 300 wby will cover all but the heavies of dangerous game hunting
 
I have an Accumark in .257 Wby. 26" barrel.
Amazing rifle!
I'm loading 115 Bergers over Retumbo for just over 3300 fps.
1" high at 100 m, 2" high at 200m, pretty much spot on at 275 m
 
Thanks guys. I'm going to do a little looking around for a Remington but if I can't find one I'll just get a plain Vanguard. I'd like the 26 inch barrel on the Remington but not a big deal to have a 24 instead. I know that I might lose a bit of velocity in a shorter barrel but it may be a little better for handling. Plus at around $600 it leaves me some cash for a half decent scope.

There is a whole bunch of extras that you might be able to piece out for what is actually a pretty nice rifle .
But, it is like three times outside your budget.
Just passing on some useful info to compare prices etc...

A few months ago I purchases a stainless/synthetic Series 2 Vanguard - can't be more please with it. It's a tack driver. Mounted a straight 6x42 Meopta MeoPro on it using Talley Lightweights. Just itchin' to test drive it on something this fall....
 
CDL in 257 Bee.

Just to let you know, 85 grain BT's are not fur friendly on a coyote. ;)

Dogleg. Just put a picture of the yote in the hole of the tanned pelt! That was my taxidermists remark when he saw the one I hit with a 90 gr cxp1 Winchester Grey box round. Not sure what make bullet the factory uses but they're violent on contact
 
I have the Rem. 700 LSS Limited Edition ,beautiful rifle and a very very nice accurate shooter.I never ever had buyers remores when I purchased that gun....love it !!
