I just picked up my 257Roberts AI and was looking for load data.I found some but am asking for a good starting load.I have a good selection of 25 cal bullets, from 75g to 130g wildcat bullets. What have you found to be a good load for deer sized game?

It is a Remington 700 ss action with 26in Gaillard barrel,I put it in a remington gray lam thumb hole stock.I have a leupold vxlll 4.5x14 in the gunmetal gray.

Mine has a 1/10 twist and with 120 grain bullets accuracy does not equal that of lighter bullets. I doubt this twist would shoot 130 grain bullets worth spit but could be wrong. Over the past 40 years I've had 3 different 257 Roberts and the one 257 A.I. R. Actually, none of them shot their best with 120's and the 120 Hornady HP was the worst of that weight. 87's and 100's were sub MOA and 120's were closer to 2 MOA
Not sure what twist you have but I suggest it shouldn't be a surprise if lighter bullets out shoot the heaviest unless you have a faster twist than 1/10.

Long action or short action?

So who uses a long action Rem 700 vs. short action 700?

I've got all the pieces to build one but ran into a little problem

I just tore a 700 short action apart and tried a 257 AI case with a 100 grain BTip seated to the bottom of the neck. It's too long.:(

I've read countless articles that a short action will work but I'm having doubts now.

I guess if I only shot 75-85 grain bullets it might work but this is going to be my new fangled SK deer hunting rifle.

Any thoughts?

You can use any 257 Roberts load data. I would consider H4831SC for the heavier bullets and highest velocity. H4350 should be nice with the lighter slugs.

2506 will also give you some clues to best powder.

Sounds like a great rig.
