26" or 28"

Can anyone tell me what difference it will make? I'm used to a 30" barrel but I'm going to buy a new shotgun but I don't
know wheather to buy a 26" or 28" barrel.

What type of shotgun are you considering: double or repeater? Compared to a double, a repeating shotgun doesn't need to have as long of a barrel to have the same sighting plane or OAL. A 26" barrel on a pump or auto is comparable to a double with 30" barrels.

There is no practical difference in ballistics between the two barrel lengths, pick whichever "swings" best for you.

I would select what ever you like when you shoulder the gun but a 28" barrel will sell quicker than a 26" If resale is possible down the road.

Different length barrels may give the gun a different feel in terms of balance.

I believe a longer barrel is quieter although the difference in a 26 and 28 inch barrel is probably not distinguishable to the ear.
