I put this in the precision rifle section but thought I might get some other responses from the frequenters of this section.
I have a #6 Pac-Nor Fluted 1-8" twist 6.5mm barrel that will finish at 20", and both a long and a short M70 push feed action.
I can't decide if I should build a 6.5x55 on the long action or a 260 on the short. Primary use would be deer hunting from box blinds. I'm hoping to run140gr Hornady SST's @ 2700fps.
Anyone have any suggestions on which to choose or any other ideas.

Both calibres should produce that velocity. The Winchester Short Action is close to 3 inches long so you could always do 6.5-284 if you wanted as well.

My vote is for the Swede. It will give you more powder space for your 140's and a hole lot cooler in my opinion.

No advantage in the 260 unless you really want a short action or if you already have tons of components for it.

A 20" barrel's too short to take advantage of the larger volume of powder. Might as well make the gun a handy ultra-compact hunter and use the short action.
