Hi Guys,

I just recently purchased a .260 REM and do not like to use Remington brass, what is the easier process to create .260 rem brass from either .243 or 7/08 that give more consistancy in the necks after re-sizing I do not want them to be to short.

Just run it through the FL die and voila.
The only hitch I could see is if you have a tight chamber.
You might and only might have a bit of trouble when necking say 308 brass down if you have a tight chamber, but not to likely to occur in a production rifle.
And you may find your cases a bit shorter than spec, but dont sweat that either.

FWIW, I have had great results with two different 260's and several different bags of RP brass. I find it more consistent than WW brass. I genereally start with RP brass in all my rifles.

What's wrong with being a few thou short? Saves you from having to trim it as soon.

I'd form from .308 brass. If it's a SAAMI chamber, then it's probably got fairly generous neck dimensions anyway, and might benefit from slightly thicker necks. This works great for my 243 - run a .308 into a 243 FL die, load and fireform, and then go with Collet dies.

I use 308's and it seem's OK. If I had to buy new brass, I'd buy 260 brass first:) , then 243 would be my second choice.

The 308 brass I am using is bt Norma. apparently this is better brass and I'm not sure if it is anymore workable than say RP. I simply necksize, after firing a lose bullet will easily slip into the case mouth.

.308 to .243....really? Do you have to ream the necks?

I prefer to neck up thick walled brass if at all possible.

i have access to a good supply of free once fired 308 brass, but i shoot two 243's. i just shove the 308 brass into the FL 243 die. fire form and trim necks true.

neck wall thickness is consistant and within sammi specs, but case length ends up .010 under trim to length. i don't know if ths it the proper process, but the brass shoots .2's in my factory M70. factory 243 win brass only gives me .3's

the 308 was the parent case of the 260, so why not use it.

It's always necessary to check when sizing from one case to another. I've never had to neck turn when used in factory sammi dimensioned chambers. Sammi spec neck diameter for the 243 is .276". 308 brass necked down will come out around .270" -.272" giving .004"+ clearance depending on the original brass neck thickness.
