I recently got a 260 Rem. When I first tried a box of nosler factory ammunition the bolt wouldn't close. I gave it the sharpie test and sure enough the bullet was well into the rifling. I came home and made up a dummy round to test where the rifling starts. With my Hornady bullet comparator I was getting about 2.132". Is that not well below normal? I have tons of room in the magazine and the fact I couldn't chamber factory ammo isn't good.

I figure this forum group was the most likely to have background dope on the 260. Thanks in advance.

It's the only factory ammunition that was avaialable to me as it's not the most common cartridge. I did test rounds to check bullet seating with both the 120gr BT from the factory ammo as well as with a 143gr ELDx. Both have to be seated super far back into the case in order to not be jammed into the lands. Like I said, I'm making contact around 2.135" which should be well below spec. I believe.

I'll probably bring it by the gunsmith and see if they can recut the chamber and lengthen the throat.

Have the throat lengthened a bit seems to be the solution. My gunsmith seems confident it will be an easy procedure. In some ways it works out because I know I'll be able to get to the lands while staying within the magazine limitations.
