Looking at getting a Tikka CTR, preferably in .260 Remington, but maybe in 6.5 Creedmoor. The .260 Rem vs. 6.5 CM is definitely not a subject that needs further discussion on the internet, and I am only slightly leaning towards the 260 for my own reasons. The rifle will only be for long range, not hunting.

My questions for any of you that reload this round are:

The CTR apparently has a mag length of 2.950". Among the likely bullet candidates in the 139-142 grain range, how probably is it that I run out of length (for mag feeding) while finding the ideal bullet seating depth? Of course the distance to the lands may be slightly different in all chambers, but should 2.950" be enough for most bullets? Which ones are most likely to be fine and which ones may not?

Thanks.

I've got a CTR in 260 Rem. Mine is a 20" tube so I shoot Berger 130gr OTM Hybrids. Loaded to 2.88" OAL I am well off the lands and well short of the mag max length.

The figure you listed is accurate for mag length and it's about the best you can get vs AICS pattern mags.

If I had the 24" barrel I'd be shooting 140gr Hybrids.

Hope this helps.

I have a CTR as well as other T-3 rifles, in my 6.5x55, and my 6.5CM. I have to seat boat tailed bullets well off of the lands to have enough bullet shank in the case neck.

You might want to determine the maximum OAL when the bullet engages the rifling. Then consider the OAL if the magazine is used. You will be able to determine what your options are, if any compromises must be made.

My COAL is 2.818 and that is giving me 20thou off the lands .this is in my Remington that was rebarreled.
My factory Remington was also well under the 2.950 and they have a lot of free ore in comparison to my Tikkas
My guess is you will be perfectly fine reaching the lands with a 139 etc

Exactly the type of answer I was looking for. I will be new to the .264 game and reloading for it, so your input is greatly appreciated. The overall length issue in comparison to the Creedmoor was the only thing about choosing .260 that I had some concern about. Thank you.

I have a T3x 260 and installed the M+ magazine which comes with the Creedmoor T3x rifles, allowing a OAL of 2.95" (like a CTR). I seat 147gr ELDM in the 260 to 2.95" and thats around .030" off the lands

I have a Tikka T3 Hunter Left Hand in .260, I shoot the 130gr accubond. I'm loaded to absolute max mag length but I'm still off the lands. There is a company in Australia that makes an after market mag that opens up the length you could load. They were pricey but 100% worth it if you're shooting long range.

R700, MDT mag with no binder plate, modified feed ramp. I’m able to seat any 130/140 class jammed into the lands. I jump .015” with 130ELMD/130 hybrids out of a 22” barrel @ 2870 with RL16. Not close to pressure yet. Single digit ES/SD
