The .260 and the 6lb rifle makes a super ###y combo. One day I'll own one.

I have one, want it? :D

The .260 recoils like a pussy cat even with full bore 140 grn. loads and shoots dimes.

260 all the way. I see zero advantage of going to the 7-08 for deer/sheep/goat/caribou and if moose/elk/big bear are on the menu I'd go with a 338 Federal if the rifle had to be a light one

By Jack Hawks:

"......The .260 Remington (originally known as the 6.5mm-08) is the ballistic twin of the 6.5x55, but based on a necked-down .308 Winchester case. The 7mm-08 is the ballistic twin of the 7x57, but based on a necked-down .308 case.......

Theoretically, the 7mm punches a slightly larger diameter hole with its fatter bullet and the 6.5mm punches a deeper hole due to its advantage in SD. No deer is going to be able to tell the difference, or live long enough to debate the issue... "

There, you heard it from my favourate horse's mouth.

how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?

The differences are very minor. Personally, I'd go 7mm08, mostly because they're more available - component selection is better and easier to find as is loaded ammo if that's your thing.

Either one will fling 140 grainers at relatively the same speed, for similar recoil and handling. In an otherwise identical rifle, the 7mm has a slim power advantage and slightly more recoil, but the difference is very small - insignificant even.
