I going to be rebarrelling a Remington 700 to .260Rem in the near future. I will be using a 1:8 twist Bartlein cut rifled barrel.

I think I will be using 139gr Scenars for bullets, just not sure what to use for brass. I always use Lapua brass for my .308 and .300WM, but they don't make a case for the .260. At least they don't advertise one.

Can someone suggest good brass to use that will give me the reliability and case life of Lapua?

I have a 260 AI, and make all my brass from Winchester 7-08 Brass. It has proven to work well, but needs to be sorted and flash holes deburred. Regards, Eagleye

Or you could use Lapua 243 necked up.

I've had good success with Remington brass; though it turns in lower velocities than the thicker and sturdier Nosler brass I've also got. I'm not having any problem keeping groups below MOA at 700 yards (when theres zero wind, I suck at shooting in any amount of breeze); and at a solid 1/2 MOA at 100 and 200 with either Remington or Nosler

Nosler

Nosler make real nice brass in 260, but it ain't cheap, comes chamferred and de burred and for the most part undented. Nosler says you can load with it straight out of the box without resizing. FS

I've just finished 100 Lapua 243 Win brass up to .264 with a Sinclair sizing die. I only lost three to cracked necks and the rest have had the primer pockets uniformed and flash holes trued. Next step will be determining my chamber dimensions for set-up of the Redding Body die to be .002 smaller than chamber spec. then run them through followed by neck sizing and trim to length. Once thats all done, sort them by weight and my 123g Scenars. Figure out my COL to the lands with the Stoney Point modified case and start stuffin over H4350 and RL 19. The Redding Instant Indicator die and dial look like a great tool to ensure consistant seating depths quickly

You lost three, sizing up by a mere .5mm? I'd be very upset with that rate of failure. Necking 30-06 up to 338-06, I don't think I lost any. Ditto with 22 ppc to 6ppc, and every other neck sizing I've done, within 1mm or so

Is this new brass? Did you lube the necks, inside and out? Perhaps you might consider annealing them

Thanks for all the info. Necking up and down doesn't appeal to me right now unless I am making something that is not commercially available. I own .243, .260 and .308, so messing around with these would only confuse the issue.

I am interested in using the Nosler brass though. I don't mind paying the extra money for quality. Does anyone know who carried it here in Canada?

P&D's got it. It's much more expensive than Lapua, though
