My son just bought a .264 WM, he’s thinking bullets from 130-142 grain.
I’m fairly flush with IMR 7828,.

Is this a workable combination or am I sending him out to look for unicorn powders?

I don't own a 264 WM but have a 257-270-7mm Weatherby mag and IMR 7828 is great in these, No reason it wouldn't work in the 264 WM. JMO

I use H1000 in my 264 Win, but I use 7828 in 257 and 270 weatherby, 7 Rem, 300 Win and weatherby, STWs too. Thats not to say that I use it in every rifle in those calibers but it sure seems to work with annoying frequency.

I never had much luck with 7828 with 140gr.
US869 was decent 3050fps very accurate but 24" barrel.
N570 3250 with 26" barrel.

H870 would easily do 3200. But very dirty.

71.0 H1000 123 SST hornady .050 off the lands. Rem Brass 9 1/2 M primers . 3500ft / sec 26'' barrel. Really good accuracy. I have reloaded for 2 264 win mag and found it to be a challenge to load for. Going to try N570 and 140 SST over the christmas break.

Back when I loaded for the 264 WM I used IMR4350 and IMR 4831 as that's what I had, the 4350 was best accuracy, I got my hands on some RL25 and it gave better velocity but not as good groups, the gun was a win model 70, I sold it to a buddy of mine and he still has it and shoots those same reloads with IMR 4350. There is no reason that 7828 wouldn't work also, just give it a try before shopping for something else.

7828 is a good powder choice for that combo (and most overbore cartridges, for that matter). I also used RL22 a lot, but that's getting scarce now too. - dan

When I first loaded my 264WM, the data was from when the 264WM was new. So I used a chrony to achieve the 3200fps with a 140. ( I got 3150) . The 264WM was designed around the 140, BTW. The 6.5m 140 is a bit of ballistic magic. After trying H-1000, RL25, N560, Magpro, Retumbo, , I found the accuracy and velocity with Magnum. Winchester 264WM came from the factory with a short throat making it quirky to reload . My gunsmith throated it normal, so I had few problems Before these new slow powders, IMR7828 was an often recommended powder, but don't expect the 3200 !
