. With a 26" flutted barrel, blue or stainless! I have one on order.

I am glad to see over the last 5 years people are starting to talk about the 264. It always had great potential. Just that 270 and 7mm were articaled to death when the 264 was in its prime, it kinda killed it.
I also think the new propelants of the late 90s helped it along, as now a 24 inch pipe is not that far behind.

I have to agree with Jason. The newer powders are making getting published velocities from the 264 a lot easier. Back in the day H870 was about the only thing that worked, and if your gun didn't like it, too bad. Now that RL25 and Retumbo etc are available, it's a much more useful caliber. Of course, now that those powders are available, the 264 STW is a coming thing, wahoo. - dan
The barrel life of the 264 has always been touted as it's downfall. I say enjoy the 264! If you are using it solely as a long range hunting rig, you will not wear the barrel out in a lifetime, and if you do? You'll have a lot of fun doing it. Rebarrel it and carry on. I have had several 264's, and although one had well in excess of 1000 rounds through it, it was still sub-moa with loads it liked. Regards, Eagleye.

I asked around, dont' think we will see in Canada until next year. No dealer has been able to give me a straight anwser. I wouldnt' worry about the 24" pipe too much.
There is alot of Truth to this ! most percision shooters claim a barrel is gone after 1000 rounds because the group size increases by .2 or .3 of an inch and is not competative. Most Hunters never get to that round count and if they do with Hunting bullets could not tell the difefrence in the load.
Its not the barrel that wears out, its the throat, and you can always just set it back. Infact some guys will buy a used 30 inch percision 6.5 x 284 barrel set it back or ream it to a new cartridge and have the best shooting hunting rifle going.

Well, as the 264 is mostly a hunting cartridge, I don't think the barrel wear is going to be an issue for most folks. The average hunter will take quite a while to get past 1000 rounds. If you're using it for LR match shooting, or you do a lot of load development, you could burn out a barrel or two. You would probably be better served with a cartridge with a better bore to case capacity ratio. - dan
99% of hunters will never put 3000rds down the barrel. Who cares?

Exactly...probably will never see 1000 rounds either.
My M70 in 264 has been going for 40 years and still has enought hunting life left in it.

Really enjoyed mine, a M70 / 26"er...
It liked H4831 (with lighter bullets) H870 and US869.
I suspect Retumbo would also have been a good choice.
Very accurate with Nosler 85's and 120's.
