.264 win with 140 gr. accubond. slow burn powders.

I have been doing sum load development on my M70 .264 win 26" EW, and am looking for info on slower burn powders info for 140 gr accubond,
Currently getting nice 1.5" four shot groups at 200 m, with 60 gr of IMR 4350, and the same load with 140 gr hornardy HPBT Match,
Almost out of IMR 4350, and would like to try a slower powder, like retumbo, R25, or R33. Or similer.
I have sum R22, that I have been trying the 130 gr swifts, these are very in consistent, the 130 gr accubonds also shoot well but I can't find any.
130 gr bergers have not given good groups with H1000.
I would like to push a 140 gr to about 3200 if possible accurately, or find sum 130 gr accubonds and push them up in the 3300 range.
Were, or does any one have infomation on slightly hotter than book loads, that might reach 3200, especially looking for info with retumbo, R25, IMR 7828, as I think I can find these powders, I do have about 6 oz of H1000, and about 1/2lb of R22 on hand.
Loads not crony yet, I will get the accuracy first and check speed after,
Thanks.

Aliant powders are pretty temp sensitive and dirty. Have you tried H4831sc? I've heard good things about Viht N540, n550. But haven't tried it yet. It seems like you're trying a whack of powder bullet combos. I would suggest sticking with one bullet or powder at a time. If you get good groups with a certain combo but you get the odd inconsistency, change your seating depth or primer. Check for runout and weigh your bullets. There's a #### load of variables in creating accurate ammo, doing load development with a bunch of different bullet powder combos at a time exponentially increases your being able to narrow down your variables.

Southernman; The 264 Win Mag likes slowwww burning powders with the 140 grain pills. I had the best results with [now obsolete] H5010, Retumbo, Ramshot Magnum and Vihtavuori N170/570. I suspect Reloder 33 would be a winner, but it is more or less unobtanium ATM. RL 22 and IMR 7828 are good, but just a tad fast for those 140's.

To reach 3200 with the 140 can be a challenge in some barrels, even 26" ones. I did it with H5010 and Retumbo.
3300 should be reachable with the 130's and several powders.

Winchester brass is the best for the 264. Use Magnum primers with those slow powders. If your throat allows it, seat the bullets out a bit for more room in the case.

The 264 is an awesome long range chambering. With it I have shot deer, bear, Elk and Moose at ranges from 110 yards right out to 500+. [I shot only the 140 Partition]

Have fun! Dave.

As mentioned, for the 264 Win Mag with 140's, H1000 and Retumbo are considered on the fast side, H4831 and Re22 are even faster.

I tried H50BMG and it gave me slightly lower MV than the Retumbo - it's too bulky to get enough in the case to go faster. Re50 is too bulky too, but Re33 (which I have yet to try) might be a good choice. All said, your best bet for max velocity will probably be US869 (which I have tried) - it's about as slow as H50BMG, but much more dense. I so wish that H870 was still manufactured - I'm down to my last two pounds.

Your next step needs to be to get a chrony.

Then what you can do is chrony a max load of Retumbo. That will be the start load for US869, and you'll work up several grains in increments until you match the Retumbo max load's MV. That US869 load will be at a considerably lower pressure than the Retumbo load and you'll find that you have only 2-3 grains left until the case is full. Those 2-3 grains will give you perhaps another 50 fps over the Retumbo.

At the end of the day it's about accuracy however, and you might find that even something "fast" like H4831 will be more accurate than the slower powders than give much higher MV.

Thank you guys, the info you have supplied is what I am after, I will see what powders I can pick up next week, I know were R33 is and N170, I see what else is about, at the likes of P&D and bashaw etc, on the hunt for 130 accubond and perhaps the 129 gr LR, and 140 A-max,
I am quite happy with the accuracy, of the 140 gr accubond, twenty thou jump, and 60 gr of IMR 4350, but am guessing, its slow, next on wish list is a manospeed crony, got fed up with my RCBS one and biffed it, inconsistent bastard it was, frustrating.
Thanks Southernman.

I have had good luck with 75gr of US869. 140gr accubond. My Ruger with a 24"barrel flys at 3050-3100fps.
I have also tried some of my surplus WC872 i could get 3150 with no pressure signs but i ran out of case room.

I have speeds of 3190 and 3160 avg for the 140 grainers but I got the speed using Sierra 140 SBT bullets and IMR7828 and H1000.
I have not had the chance to use the Accubonds in the 264 yet since the Sierra works fine for now, I do use the Accubonds in other calibers and like them very much on both deer and moose. Rifle is a Pre 64 M70 Westerner with the factory 26" barrel.

I used to use H870 with 140 Parts in my 264 and got over 3200 fps and 1 hole groups BUT since it is no longer available...............I do know however that RL 25 is absolute magic in my 257 Wby, so I think one could interpolate that it should also be fairly magical in the 264 as well. I haven't played with my 264 for years now, so I guess I'll have to play with it one day soon as I have about 6000 264 bullets. I was thinking a while ago that Retumbo would be another potentially good one to try. I never had any luck with H1000 in my 264 but that may be just my rifle.
IMR 7828 is pure magic with 120 grnrs, I know. I got near 3500 fps with it and 120 Nosler BTs, a totally devastating load for deer and prairie goats
