270 axis grouping issue

I would snug up the action screws and all the scope base and mount screws. Go to the range, fire your couple of quick shots and then try the 5 dollar bill down the barrel channel looking for barrel contact on the stock.

While I do think you're asking a little much of the axis, I also think things can be improved a bit.

Very thin barrel, I had the same problem with my 30-06 Savage. After two very close shots, everything after that would open up, 1 inch then a few more shots, 2 inch, then a few more shots 3 inch until i was doing a 5 inch group.

After 5-8 shots you would see the barrel make contact with the stock. Additionally if the sun was on one side of the gun the same issue occurs as its not floating very much.

Its all heat with this one, its not designed to shoot a large string of ammo at once, its a bush beater / hunting piece.

So does that mean my Axis is a leper for being able to fire an entire box without accuracy being effected? The only time my rifle would rest is the time it would take to reload and reinsert the mag :p

Or is there a lot of heat difference between a .270 and a .243 round?

My 223 will do that as well. Its been mighty hot and still shot good. I had one in 30-06 and would put 5 into an inch as well. Depends on the gun I guess.
