I was looking up BC's on .264, .277, and .284 to see where they compare. There are no .277's in the 500 or 600 range??

What gives? This should be a sweet spot.

It is not a popular chambering for long range or precision shooting. Catch 22: Lack of components reduces demand and reduced demand reduces the liklihood of components being made for it.

The Bergers in 270/6.8mm are accurate enough if they work in your gun, (the 270 does not lack any inherent accuracy) but the bottom line is 30-06 derivatives are not popular choices

I use the Nosler Ballistic Tip 130gr because of really good quality control. The BC is .477 I think. I put those in front of 58.5gr of H4350 in my .270WSM at 3200fps in a 24" Win M70.

It's a very crappy barrel and I've still put 3/5 shots into 2MOA at 1000M.

Scope was a 8.5-25x50mm Leup LRT. It's my groundhog and coyote, long range, sniper you name it, it does it gun...... :D

(Sniper competitions are tough with a three round top load though...!!!!)

There are no good components for this kind of endeavour out there, that I have seen. You've just got to be crazy enough to try it!!

I know you guys are pickier than that, but I wanted ONE rifle. The scope, bedding and a radical bore compounding made it shoot okay for a hunting rifle.

Build a .284!!!

for long range, there are better choices out there than the 270... The 6.5 are tough to beat long range.. for hunting the 7mm WSM will crush sh!t...

Convince Berger or someone else to make a ~165 grain VLD, use a cartridge with ~60 grains of powder, and you're .270 will do pretty much everything a 6.5-.284 will.

if they will export into Canada now that they have been sold try Wildcat bullets.. he was making heavy for caliber .277 bullets with excellent BC.

Also on long range hunting . com there was a guy called greyghost selling some high BC bullets.. not sure if he had gotten to the .277 yet but they were planning on it..

I shot a 2.5" 3 shot group @ 460 yards with a 270 this summer, loaded with 130gr Ballistic Tips (BC .430 or something). $700 Rem 700 too!
