Nope, not the usual Ford vs Chev debate, this is different:

If you had two choose between two lightweight Husqvarna rifles, with 20.5-inch barrels, one in 30-06, one in 270, would either cartridge perform better out of that short barrel?

Would the muzzle blast and recoil be significantly different between the two?

Would accuracy, bullet speed and foot-pound impact be more affected at 200 metres by the short barrel in one cartridge compared to the other?

no it's not..........

bullet weight, bullet type and availability are the only limiting factors, these are to be determined by your needs and or wants.....so after picking a bullet weight and or flavor pick the caliber that it is made for and or designed for........

i would guess the 30 06 because of the larger bore would be more efficent than the 270. 270's depend on small bullets and slower powders. muzzel blast probably similar, not enough difference to notice. accuracy would depend on the quality of the barrel and the load being used. if of similar specs either one could be better or worse. short barrels can be quite accurate as can long barrels. often depending on condition, bedding etc not acual length.

Yup, all done right here.

Seriously, I have a chance at a Husqvarna Lightweight in both chamberings and this was a question about barrel length performance in either calibre.

I know it is a hackneyed subject (that means overdone, overworked and worn out by the way) but I thought I'd put it out there. Besides, I know putting 270 and 30-06 in the same sentence would catch your attention.

I have both. The 270 gets 130s over 3100 and 150s just over 2800 fps. The 30-06, gives 165s close to 2800 and sends 180s along at 2550.

The 270 definitely shoots flatter, but not until beyond 300 yards, so just take your pick.
