.270 or 30-06?

The 270 is just a necked-down 30-06. The 30-06 has the bullet weight selection to make it legal to shoot any animal in North America. Barrel life will be better with the '06.

Obtunded summed it up pretty well, but I'm pretty much tagged out and bored so...

I've never noticed much difference in recoil between the two, if recoil is a concern you might consider going to a 6.5x55 or a 2506. If not I'd go for the 3006 in that 798 - then go forth and fill and ark or two.
