Does anyone manufacture solids in 270 cal. I have a friend who butchers buffalo and says he would like to try some solids if they are out there. His reasoning is that the premium ammo is not penetrating the skulls on some of the big bulls he is shooting.Sometimes he has to shoot them from 100 to 300 yrds as they are not in a pen , but a pasture and it is easier to knock them down there and haul them in with a tractor and front end loader. My suggestion is to get closer , or get a bigger gun, but he says that closer is sometimes not an option , and he doesnt wanna get a bigger cal rifle. Just want to see what your thoughts are!!!!!
Thanks

There are many stories of bullets bouncing off the buffs' boss(where the horns meet in the skull), both American Bison and cape Buffalo. For head/brain shots you would be best to do what African Ivory hunters of yore used for brain shots, large caliber solid bullets, some however used the 7mm Mauser with 175 gr. solids. Those old time guns/loads can be duplicated today with large calibers and heavy hard cast bullets. The .270 will work on big animals but may not be the best for head shots.
