Does anyone have any experience or advice on reloading the .270 with Barnes TSX? I have some 130 grain TTSX and plan on using H4831sc. Is 60 grains of H4831 considered a hot load or moderate? Any information appreciated. I have never loaded for the .270 before or used Barnes bullets.

I've got the new Barnes manual and they don't list H4831sc for 130 gr bullets, but they do for 140 gr. They show the max charge at 58.5 gr for the 140 gr, so 60 gr with a 130 gr bullet is likely getting close to the max. You'll never know unless you work your loads up starting with a lower powder charge.

I load 130 gr TSX (the original TSX) for a friend's 270 using IMR 4831. We are using a charge of 56.5 grs of IMR 4831, which gives just about 3100 fps out of is "22 barrel Browning, but it is close to published maximums.

This past year I've been loading 110 TTSX over 58.7gr of Hybrid 100v (caution, above posted max 57.7 ), 3/8 groups all day with my Browning A-Bolt, when seated to the recommended .050 off the lands. Velocity should be around 3300.
Used it on 2 does, 1@ 60 yards, and 1@ 308 yards, numerous coyotes, and a 160 inch Sask whitetail @ 175 yards, which was a quarter towards shot and the bullet entered the shoulder, smashing it, blew apart a lung, heart, and continued all the way to the hind quarter! Awesome penetration. Buck made it 5 yards after the shot!
All kills(deer) only had the expected meat damage, nothing out of the norm, very little blood shot meat!!

I've tried all the usually bullets out there, and this is the only bullet that has impressed me!!! Especially for a light for caliber bullet!

As with any bullet, you must do your part and send it into the right place!

My guess would be that a accurate load with a 130 TTSX would be a gem!:D

Hi guys, altough not a 270 win, I load 140 gr TSX BT bullets in a 270 WSM and 210 gr TSX BT in a 338-06. I have been loading Barnes bullets for probably 7 years now with good results. Two things I have noticed is that make sure your 50 thou off the leade for your seating depth (hurt a 240 Weatherby with a 95 gr x bullet) and expect about 100 fps less velocity then they publish at max loads. They open easy at low velocity anyway and you will probably experience better accuracy a little below max as well (depending on the cartridge). Good luck, they are great bullets.

Just checked the latest Hodgdons annual manual and they list H4831, 54.0-2747, 60.0c-3025(max), it is alittle on the slow side, but still worth a try!
I think the hybrid 100v is the top velocity, with moderate pressure powder!
I currently load it for all my rifles with excellent results!! And it's a extreme powder, so theres no worring about temp/velocity variations.

You might what to check out http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp
Lots of info to ponder through!!!

I load my 270 in most all bullet weights available for it, and have put many rounds down the pipe, so any questions, just shoot me a pm, can hook you up with some info that I have accumulated!

I am a life long handloader and have used most bullet makes, mostly 130gr,on white tailed deer over the years in my 270 win. This year I decided to use 110gr ttsx Barnes. 58gr IMR4350 col 3.250. I shot a spike horn at about 200 yards. The bullet went through the base of the neck.He never moved. I realize this is only one deer and the shot was well placed but it was impressive. DR
