I want one, but not too many choices available anymore for guns. Used to have a Vanguard, but they are no longer chambered in this caliber. Any options other than buying a Mk V?

You can make one. I have an FN Husqvarna action with a Weatherby barrel on it. (I bought mine as a custom all done). The magazine is just barely long enough to hold these powder pig cartridges. Powder pigs yes but they shoot awfully flat :) Plus I think you can still get one in a wby Vanguard..

And how much do ya think it costs to buy a rifle with a good action and then rebarrel it?

You might come in less than a Mark V, but not by a whole bunch if you buy a good barrel. a mark V synthetic chambered for 270Wby sells at Wholesale for $1,139.95.

Or just get a .270 WSM in a factory Win70, Rem700, Ruger77, Browning, or whatever you like. Performance is nearly the same--any advantage the Wby might have on paper has a lot to do with being measured from a 26" bbl.

Yeah, I was just checking the ballistics. Almost exactly what I used to get from my Vanguard 24" bbl .270 Wby. The Savage Weather Warrior looks good, and is reasonably priced.

That weather warrior won't win any beauty contests, but it's a sturdy, very accurate rifle. Spend all the money you save on a nice piece of glass--a long-range number like that deserves something sweet.
