270 Win 130gr TSX which powder?

RL-22 was good but I found H-4831 and H-4350 much more accurate in my 700 Mt rifle.

RL-22 will give you good velocity.

I have always wanted to try 4831 Short Cut.

I shoot that exact same bullet in mine as well as the Hdy sp seems to have alost the same POI go figure

Yet another vote for H4831. Are you beginning to see the pattern? ;)

The older I get, the more I appreciate working with cartridges that show a general affinity for a particular powder, notwithstanding the nuances of individual rifles. By and large, a .270 Win should shoot very well with H4831. Much like a .257 Roberts that will almost always shoot well with 4350, and a M-14 should always do well with 4895 or 4064.

Thanks everyone

Picked up some H 4831 SC and worked up loads from 57gr to 60gr..Those Boattail 130gr TSX sure look slick..Now need a half decent day to go shooting.

FWIW, if you're going to be loading Triple Shocks, keep the manufacturer's suggestions on COL in mind. I discovered that my .270 TSX loads shot best about .030" off the lands (IIRC they suggest 0.050" off the lands to start). In my experience, the groups tightened up (or opened up) as COL was varied.

Like a lot of members said for accuracy and velocity H 4831 is great but if you want to really step up speed try Magpro good accuracy as well

H4831 fan from the old days. Used it in a couple of .270's
...and still do in a 25-06.

Sierra reported higher recorded pressures in their test barrel equipment
with H4831sc ( over standard H4831) ... (which of course Hodgdon says ain't so ! ) maybe the shorter grains gave a slightly faster burn ?
They recommended backing off a grain or two below proven H4831 max loads then working back up cautiously watching for pressure signs.

Did 63.5 gr of RL 19 with the 130 gr TTSX in my Savage 16. Decent start. 1" 95 shot) groups. I don't remember the velocity. We also loaded the 140 gr TSX with 62 gr of RL 19. The most interesting thing was we shot that round out of 3 270 WSMs. One was a Browning BAR, one was a Weatherby Sub-Moa and the last one was my Savage 16. Consistently, my Savage recorded about 200fps faster than the other 2 guns. All loads, case length, etc were exactly the same. I'm going to try H4831 SC next.

I am surprised you can get that much reloder 19 in a 270 case. The max load in the new Barnes manual is 59.5 grs. I had the best luck with the two I loaded for was the classic 60 grs of H4831sc.
