Hey fellas, heres 2 factory ammo loads for the .270 win, they say a picture tells a thousand words..... What can the gurus say about this photo?

Looks like two different Rounds. Even though the one on the left looks like it may have been damaged, the profile doesnt appear to be the same. The one on the right appears to have alot more crimp too. Did they come from the same box? If so, I'd send that pic along with the lot # to the manufacturer and see what they're willing to do. I'd also pull the bullets and see if they weigh the same and inspect them further.

Well played Sir, although it is a Federal 150gr SPRN Left and a Winchester Super X 130gr on the Right!!

the crimp V non crimp suprised me a little, also the length of the 130gr was interesting.

Visually, which looks more 'accurate' to you?

the 150 must be shoved in some!?

It's almost impossible to determine by appearance what would be most accurate: Yes, a damaged bullet, neck etc. are obvious signs that consistency isn't something to expect from that box of ammo, but not all rifles perform equally with the same round. The 130gr Winchester round looks like a better long distance load, even with less mass, would have a higher BC because of the bullet shape: Holding velocity and resisting drift over long distances doesn't necessarily mean more accurate.

I use mostly Remington CoreLokt, followed by the Winchester power point both 150gr in 270s (handloads first place) but the few I've used from Federal seem to be seated deeper - I don't know why that is. The round nose and thickness of the jacket would affect the length of the bullet when comparing different kinds of same mass: Copper being lighter than lead, the thicker jacket will result in a longer bullet. The round nose is a shorter and thicker cylinder, than a spire point like the Power Point is. The 150gr appears to be seated to a cannelure so it's not forced deeper into the neck than intended.

This could be the makings of an interesting trivia game: Difficulty could be increased by comparing pictures of rare cartridges.

Well, Wish i didnt EFF around with those Federals!!!!

I missed another Buck this morning, an finally had enough of those projectiles, Either went right through or i shot over..... time will tell as i hunt this area religiously from Now on for the Rut period, so i will find him if hes there..

I just Sighted the rifle in for the Winchester Super X 130gr...... POI difference was 7 Inches Higher with the 130s...... Which was on PAr with where the 140gr Supreme AB were hitting previously before the Federal f-up!
So im finding it weird these 150gr shoot so much Lower @ 100m....... And also note shot to the Right 4-6 inches..

The 150s just dont do anything for me now, These deer are either Really close (today) or really far (every other day) so that big Round Nose can stay in the ammo box!

Glad to have things " O K " again for the 5th time in a month, an I feel alot more Confident with the 130gr SuperX on the Paper.

This is pretty much the beginning of the best 2 weeks i can have afield becoming one with these Spotty deer , just so suprised the first one i came across was THE one, a big black Fallow with lovely Antlers a 210+ DS model.
Thats the mission.... Now that the rifle is good.... i seriously was doubting the rifle which has been a dream forever... Fed 150s aint for this Rem700!
