I've got some 140 grain Nosler Partitions coming in the mail to me and I was hoping that someone could suggest a good load to me for this bullet in the
.270. Right now the only suitable powder I have around would be H4831. Got any suggestions for me?

I have a winchester with 21 inch barrel and use 140 grain Hornady BTSP out of it. Load is 54 gr IMR4831 with cci 200 primer.
2 other winchester 270's I load for have 22 inch barrels and they both like 55.0 grains of IMR 4831.

I was loading 140 gr Accubonds last year in my son's 270 over 59 gr of H4831sc and get right around 3000 fps with a CCI magnum primer with no pressure signs and very good accuracy.

That sounds like what I'm after. What barrel length does your son's rifle have? I've got a Ruger #1B with a 26" barrel so it really wrings everything of a cartridge. I'm just wondering what I can hope for. Having said that though I really should look at trying the Accubonds. I've tried the Hornady Interbonds and the accuracy was pretty mediocre.

If you are just looking for a good consistent hunting load, I have used 56 to 58 grains of H4831 with 140 grain Nosler's for years (accubond, ballistic tip, and partition). .270 is a nice flat round. (2,800 fps).

I always use CCI Large Rifle Primers. I don't even use magnum primers in my .300wm loads. I don't find it necessary with H4831 or H4831SC.

H4831 is a great powder for the .270 and .300. I only switch to H4350 for 30.06.

The newest Nosler manual shows a start weight of 54.0 gr of H4831sc @ 2774 fps and a max charge of 58.0 gr @ 3000 fps (140 gr bullets). Their test rifle had a 24 " barrel and they used Winchester cases and Federal 210 primers.

I used magnum primers for my sons gun, becasue accuracy was better. In fact accuracy improved with both 270's I load for with the magnum primer. His gun ahs a 24 inch barrel and I loaded to the John Barsness Idea of using my chronograph as the pressure guide. I loaded in very small increments over the book max until I reached the same velocity as the nosler manual using H4831sc and the recult was 59 grains and 3000 fps. The load was accurate, no issues with the cases, primers or bolt lift.

In a 26" tube, you can expect 3000 and a bit with that 140 and H4831. My 24" gives just a hair over 3000 with the Partition and Accubond using 60.5 grains of Vihtavuori N165. These bullets both shoot under 1 moa right out to 400 meters, and are pretty flat shooting. The Accubond should make a great long range bullet. I have shot deer with the 7mm/140AB, but not with the 270 yet. Regards, Eagleye.
