I will be going hunting cow elk in few weeks and i was wondering what i should load. I will be taking my .270 wsm. I have lots of 100Gr bullets loaded up and i was wondering if they would be enough, if i need i could load up some 140 gr but i just thought i could use up the 100 gr . let me know your thoughts and opinions.

I just picked up a .270wsm, but haven't tried any 100gr yet. Regardless, I would lean toward a good 130gr bullet, 140gr would be better. One box of bullets is a small cost to pay...

I shot my cow elk last fall with a 270 wsm using 140 gr Barnes T.S.The cow was just over 300 yds,One shot thru the chest,She took a couple of steps and that was it.I would go with the 140 gr.

Personally would go with 140gr Accubonds or TTSX's. IMO 100gr's too small...but could work with the perfect shot placement

140gr Accubonds are my bullets for my reloads in my two 270WSM's. Mst shots have been double lung complete pass-thru penetration.

I think it would be a bad choice myself. Usually 100 gr 270 bullets are designed for varmints, and elk can take a lot of punishment.

100 grain .270 bullets look very impressive on paper, but are very very poor big game bullets. They might possibly kill like the hammer of Thor if slipped between the ribs on a broadside shot, but may not get into the body cavity at all if they hit the thick shoulder muscles. A large crater in the shoulder muscles is not a great way to quickly and humanely kill an elk. For the sake of the elk, please use a big game bullet, not a bullet designed to be a gopher vapourizer.

Those bullets cause bunnies to explode into tattered bloody rags when fired from a standard 270 win. That suggest to me that they don't have the integrity to penetrate heavy hide, bone or muscle.
