hey guys just got an xbolt in 270 wsm. stainless with 23" barrel curious what everyone is using and finding for loads for it in hunting applications? thanks for any info. naturally i will develope my own loads and refer to manuals so dont panic. just curious what others are finding. thanks!

Years ago, a case full of Retumbo topped with a 140gr Nosler Accubond was the long range big game go to load!
Things might have changed since but this load was a real "freaking laser beam" with velocities over 3100 ft/s.

I only have a regular 270, not the WSM, but I like a heavy dose of 4350 and a 130gr bonded bullet. Have a box of interbonds on the shelf, hopefully they shoot, otherwise I might have to try the Swift Scirocco IIs.

Most accurate load I've got so far is a 150gr partition. Will go back to them if I can't get a 130gr bonded to shoot as well (the parts put up a few groups under 1/2" from a Savage Axis)

Personally I've been shooting 130 gr TSX bullets from my 270 WSM and I've killed game as small as pronghorn and as large as elk with it. I think any good quality 130 or 140 gr bullet will work well for deer and elk, but I would pick a solid copper such as TSX, TTSX, etc, or a bonded core bullet over a standard cup / core type of bullet, especially if you're going to shoot something bigger than deer.

I would agree. The velocity of the 270wsm is too much for cup and core bullets generally speaking.

61gn of IMR4350 over 130gn Hornaday sp. Amazingly accurate with my Weatherby. Seating depth can make all the difference. Also works very well with Nosler partitions and ballistic tips.

How did the 160gr Partition do on game?
I'm curious since 160gr Partition is a classic 7 Rem Mag 400 yards elk load.

Never shot anything other then paper with that one, wasn't for a lack of trying though. I had those loaded up for a north West BC costal Moose hunt that ended up falling through unfortunately. Was very accurate in my M70 WE.

For deer I use 63gr of H4350 for 3300fps with 130gr partitions, RE 19 works well with the 130's also. I also like Retumbo with 140gr accubonds at 3175fps. every rifle can be different you may have to try a couple different loads to find what you like. As mentioned use a premium bullet with the velocities that can be reached with this cartridge.

Mine likes the 130 Ballistic tip and Acccubond taken up to 3400 with a bunch of 7828. I used it as a bear dispatch gun and deer stand rifle at hand-shaking range and have quit worrying about the bullets blowing up on the surface or in my pocket. The 140 accubond might be a better compromise between velocity and BC. I might even switch some day if I ever run out of 130s. I also have a 160 Partition load with Retumbo, but cant remember what was supposed to do that tbe lighter bullets dont already handle just fine. Just sometime else to play with. :)
