What load would you recommend for a 140gr bullet. I would like someting for hunting moose this fall. I have a synthetic vanguard with a 24" barrel with a 1 in 10 twist.
Currently with my .270wsm Tikka T3 I am getting outstanding accuracy with Barnes 140gr TSX, Federal 215 primers over 64.2gr of RL22. Averaging under 3 shots .75 MOA with no pressure signs. Seating depth for me is just a hair past the last pressure groove, but that will be rifle dependent obviously.
I am loading a 140gr Hornady SST with 60.0 Grains of IMR 4831. It consistantly shoots a 1" five shot group (honest group) at 100 yards. That is shooting out of a savage. my C.O.L is 2.820" I know most manuals call for 2.860" but that is too long for this model of savage. I did not play with this load much. I don't beleive this gun will shoot much better than that and 1" is more than accurate enough for hunting.
