270WSM

I have 2 Tikka T3 LS in 270WSM. The fiance now wife took over the first one last year , so I got another for me. LOVE THEM with 140gr. Accubonds. Trying some Barnes TSX also. Take a look at Tikka T3 rifles. Great shooters out of the box.

Can't go wrong with 270 WSM.

I have an A Bolt Hunter in it, very pleased.

Calibre has very good energy and little felt recoil. What more can you ask for.

270

The 270WSM will do everything the 270 now does 150yds further away.

For under 200yds, I would look at the bullet used especially if you lean towards the 130gr softpoints. Many have had issues with low penetration from a 270 let alone going 250fps faster. You will certainly run a big risk of bluing alot of meat.

I like the 150gr SST out of my 270 at 3000fps. Don't know if it will like going 200fps faster though?????

That is the only down side of these small cal magnums. At close range, they are going too fast for accurate softpoint bullets. Premiums are usually your best bet. Will they shoot well at longer distances though???? They most certainly are much more expensive especially if you need to practise, which we all could use more of. 50rds a year is not enough practise in my books.

I lean towards the 7mm WSM as my favorite as I am really having fun with my two 7RM's (basically the same performance). Allows very high BC bullets for LR plinking/hunting and heavies for up close work. Recoil is also very tolerable compared to a big 30 or 338.

For me hunting inside 400yds, there is little benefit over the reg 270 and I can use reg SST's in my 270. If going further, I like the better bullets of the 6.5, 7mm and 30.

Love my 270WSM. Currently use 140gr Accubonds. Just got back from dropping a whitetail at 40yds. No real excessive meat damage from what I can see so far.

What no one is mentioning is the efficiency of the Short Mag over the long case. The short fat case will give you more velocity for sure... but the other benefits are shorter bolt throw, less recoil, and superb accuracy.
The only downside is one less bullet in the magazine...

I'm getting to like mine , but its too dam flat shooting. Sighted mine in for 3 inches high at 100 as I would with the 308 for moose and shot over a deer at 275yards first shot , he was screwed on the second when I aimmed lower lol ...BT

The price is O.K. and the 270WSM is great i used mine to take 2 muleys this year and both were one shot kills with 130gr partitions doing 3300fps. on the chrony. I believe it to be the ultimate mountain rifle for everything up to and including elk with the proper bullets.

thanks guys I have been out hunting......(I have every thurs and friday off in NOV.)
the deal didn't go down because the guy scared my budy off by telling him it kicked hard and jumped....this was his first rifle ....thats not what he wanted to hear...he told us it kicked harder than his 7mm...what ever

thanks for the help

all things being equal, a 270 WSM should recoil as much as a 7mm Rem Mag, maybe a tad less...

certainly most shooters can learn to handle the recoil of this class of cartridge

Good point Jerry, not many hunters (myself included) should be shooting at game past 400 yards.
If I had to choose between a .270 win and a .270 wsm I think I would opt for the .270 wsm. I have owned both and took alot of deer this season w/ the old .270 win but I really have a thing for the .270 wsm.

Cheers!!
