I picked up a Tikka in 270WSM. 24" barrel.
Been playing around with some 130gr bullets. Speer boat tails.
I cannot get even close to the book velocities or even the factory ammo.
Winchester deer season XP 130gr advertised at 3275 gets 3260 avg.
CCI 250, Fed brass 1X
IMR powders:
4350 60gr which is book max is 3015fps,. Book says 3180
4831 62gr 2965fps, book says 3225.
7828 66gr 3060fps, book says 3250. (Questionable primer)
RL16. 63gr 3050 book 3225 (very flat primers)
RL26. 68gr 3070 book 3290 (flat primers)
These are considered max loads or over max depending on the book.
Bullet seated .050 off lands. 2.770 coal.
They all shot 3/4-7/8" group at 100.
Labradar speeds that where verified against a known load just to be sure. Done over a couple trips to the range.
These are all shooting 150-200+fps less than any book. I know books are a guide line and every rifle is different. But I am seeing pressure signs at the higher charges but getting abnormally low velocities. Primer pockets are loose. But is federal brass.
What gives?
I bought the gun to rebarrel anyways. Might go early!
