well Red, of course the 260 is better

lower recoil, shorter/lighter rifles, less muzzle blast, lower powder consumption, wider range of bullets for handloading, higher BC on average, higher SD

has some downfalls though like poor selection of factory ammo, and limited chamberings in factory rifles

Ive overcome those, though ;)

Well I cannot argue the effiency of the .260.... but greater ammo selection than .277 I don't think so. There are a lot more .277 bullets readily available in weights ranging from 90 to 160 grain for the .270.
Other than a shorter action and more efficiency I can see no advantage over a .270. In fact the .270 is faster and flatter right across the board and with the larger diameter bullet and more energy delivered, it is the more efficient killer.;)

That makes it 58 different bullets for the .270 to 39 bullets for the .260:eek:
I even added the two Woodleigh offerings for the 6.5 that you missed.

.270 has the .260 on the ropes... I feel it... I feel it.:D

well, the 260 has just as good of varmint options, just as good of deer bullets, just as good of big game bullets, and much better match bullets (non existant damn near in 270)

if your 270 is so horribly inaccurate, that it needs 20 more options to get it to shoot, you better get a 280 :p

The .260Rem usually has a 1:9 Rate of Twist... which is superb for the 130-140 grain bullets and it will stabalize all the way up to 160 gr with no difficulty. The recoil is virtually non-existent in these short action rifles which makes it an excellent caliber for the mountain rifle/Xtra light/Titanium platforms used more and more these days.

if you want a gun that can do long range varmints, medium sized game, bigger game in a pinch, and punch some targets a waaayysss out there, with low recoil and cheap to shoot, the 260 is the one to go with.

I loved my first 260, a lss mtn rifle, but wanted a tad faster twist barrel and a bit more meat on it so it wont heat up as quick. Problem solved when I got my rifle rebarreled with a magnum contour 1:8 twist fluted barrel :p :)

I find the 270 is recoil for nothing. It doesn't hit noticeably harder than a 260, recoil is closer to that of a 30-06, but it doesn't anywhere near as hard as a 30-06.
